"Their future is at Stake" states the flyer handed to me today by a teacher as I dropped of my daughter at school. Alarming, right?
I look at the flyer while I'm waiting for the line of cars to move forward, and I notice quickly that this flyer was produced by the Teachers Union and it relates to budget cuts affecting public schools.
Right away, I also notice that this flyer is propaganda. One line in the flyer states: "Tell them [Legislators] it's time for everyone to pay their fair share, and to repeal the tax breaks handed out to large corporations and oil companies." What?
I mumble under my breath: "This is why I can't support unions." My daughter hears me and asks, "Mom, you don't support our school? You don't support my education?" Not enough time to explain, so I say "Of course I do, I just don't support some of the things the Unions do. We'll talk later - have a good day, I love you." And out she goes.
However, my thoughts on the issue are far from gone. I am angry at the District, teachers, PTA, etc. for allowing this type of propaganda to be fed to the students and parents - lies stated as facts.
First, the reason why California is in a budget crunch is not because corporations and oil companies do not pay their fair share. Corporations and oil companies pay their fair share, so much so, that it has become unfeasible for companies to remain in California and make a profit. Many are moving (or have already moved) to different states. It is not lack of paying fair shares they should be condemning, but rather over taxation on the companies that provide jobs and revenue for the state.
Second, Unions are known to support Democratic candidates that in turn support big spending without ever explaining how they will pay for their very splendid buys. They think there is a magical tree in the sky to pay for everything. If anyone tries to reform the broken systems, then Democrats will call you racist and hateful. Case in point, the welfare system. It is desperate need of reform, but if cuts are made to this program, then they assume it is because Republicans hate blacks and hispanics. As long as Unions keep supporting Democrats and getting fat off the people, then there will continue to be cuts in school budgets.
Hey, here's an idea teachers - how about you agree to take pay cuts when you're not doing your job as it should be done? How about voting for people as Union Leaders that do not support big bloated government? How about not spending $1,000,000 in support of the "No on 8" campaign against marriage? How is that for solving our budget crunch?
I understand why teacher unions are necessary - to work out teacher's health benefits, etc., but unions have become greedy. Worse yet, they have lost their focus. They are no longer about education - but rather about serving progressive agendas. They don't truly care about students - they care about their pockets and having them full of our tax money.
If these teachers truly cared about education, they would stop supporting candidates that inflate our government and do nothing to make responsible decisions for education.
If these teachers truly cared about education they would put the kids ahead of the Union wants. They would allow children and parents to make informed decisions, not ram Union agendas down their throat as facts.
We all agree education of our children is important and that good teachers are essential. We all agree schools need funding to be successful. However, Teacher Unions blaming corporations and oil companies for budget cuts is ludicrous. It's like starting a fire, throwing gasoline on it, and then when it is raging out of control, suing the Fire Department for not putting it out in time.
Message to Teachers Unions: Stop pointing the finger in an effort to find who is to blame for budget cuts to schools. If you want to find the real culprit for depriving our kids of funds, start by looking in the mirror - I promise you will not like what you see.
