Start the Fire, Fuel the Flames, Then Point the Finger

Thursday, March 4, 2010, 01:28 PM PST [General]

"Their future is at Stake" states the flyer handed to me today by a teacher as I dropped of my daughter at school.  Alarming, right?

I look at the flyer while I'm waiting for the line of cars to move forward, and I notice quickly that this flyer was produced by the Teachers Union and it relates to budget cuts affecting public schools.

Right away, I also notice that this flyer is propaganda.  One line in the flyer states: "Tell them [Legislators] it's time for everyone to pay their fair share, and to repeal the tax breaks handed out to large corporations and oil companies."  What?

I mumble under my breath: "This is why I can't support unions."  My daughter hears me and asks, "Mom, you don't support our school?  You don't support my education?"  Not enough time to explain, so I say "Of course I do, I just don't support some of the things the Unions do.  We'll talk later - have a good day, I love you."  And out she goes.

However, my thoughts on the issue are far from gone.  I am angry at the District, teachers, PTA, etc. for allowing this type of propaganda to be fed to the students and parents -  lies stated as facts.

First, the reason why California is in a budget crunch is not because corporations and oil companies do not pay their fair share.  Corporations and oil companies pay their fair share, so much so, that it has become unfeasible for companies to remain in California and make a profit.  Many are moving (or have already moved) to different states.  It is not lack of paying fair shares they should be condemning, but rather over taxation on the companies that provide jobs and revenue for the state.

Second, Unions are known to support Democratic candidates that in turn support big spending without ever explaining how they will pay for their very splendid buys.  They think there is a magical tree in the sky to pay for everything.  If anyone tries to reform the broken systems, then Democrats will call you racist and hateful.  Case in point, the welfare system.  It is desperate need of reform, but if cuts are made to this program, then they assume it is because Republicans hate blacks and hispanics.   As long as Unions keep supporting Democrats and getting fat off the people, then there will continue to be cuts in school budgets.

Hey, here's an idea teachers - how about you agree to take pay cuts when you're not doing your job as it should be done?  How about voting for people as Union Leaders that do not support big bloated government?  How about not spending $1,000,000 in support of the "No on 8" campaign against marriage? How is that for solving our budget crunch?

I understand why teacher unions are necessary - to work out teacher's health benefits, etc., but unions have become greedy.  Worse yet, they have lost their focus.  They are no longer about education - but rather about serving progressive agendas.  They don't truly care about students - they care about their pockets and having them full of our tax money.

If these teachers truly cared about education, they would stop supporting candidates that inflate our government and do nothing to make responsible decisions for education.

If these teachers truly cared about education they would put the kids ahead of the Union wants.  They would allow children and parents to make informed decisions, not ram Union agendas down their throat as facts.

We all agree education of our children is important and that good teachers are essential.  We all agree schools need funding to be successful.  However, Teacher Unions blaming corporations and oil companies for budget cuts is ludicrous.  It's like starting a fire, throwing gasoline on it, and then when it is raging out of control, suing the Fire Department for not putting it out in time.

Message to Teachers Unions:  Stop pointing the finger in an effort to find who is to blame for budget cuts to schools.  If you want to find the real culprit for depriving our kids of funds, start by looking in the mirror - I promise you will not like what you see.

Birth Control/Abortions Lead to Higher Risks of Cancer

Friday, January 8, 2010, 11:32 AM PST [General]

I was listening to Radio Guadalupe this morning on my way to work,  and they were discussing a headline today about birth control (Oral Contraceptives) and abortion leading to higher risks of cancer.  It surprised me because all we have ever heard from government agencies and breast cancer foundations is that there is no correlation between OC/Abortion and cancer.

In fact, in 2003 the National Cancer Institute (NCI) conducted a very thorough study (or so they said at the time) of the issue.  NCI concluded that "having an abortion or miscarriage does not increase a woman’s subsequent risk of developing breast cancer."  You can view the NCI 2003 "Fact Sheet" here.

The truth is that for the last 7 years they have allowed women to continue thinking that oral contraceptives are "safe."  The NCI has also allowed abortion to continue unchecked - not warning women about the physical hazards of this procedure.

It turns out that a study completed in April 2009 (almost one year ago) has found there is a direct correlation between women who take birth control or have had abortions and cancer.  More importantly, the person who in 2003 would not admit to any correlation has changed her mind.  The study "...contained an admission from Dr. Brinton and her colleagues that abortion raises breast cancer risk by 40%."

"The study found that "a statistically significant 40% increased risk for women who have abortions" exists, and that a " 270% increased risk of triple negative breast cancer (an aggressive form of breast cancer associated with high mortality) among those who used oral contraceptives while under age 18 and a 320% increased risk of triple negative breast cancer among recent users (within 1-5 years) of oral contraceptives," also exists." [emphasis mine]

See full Lifesite News article here.

Okay, let's put that in simple terms.  TNB type cancer is "aggressive" and can (and the majority of times does) lead to death.  If you're on the pill before the age of 18, you raise your risk of getting cancer by 270%, and by 320% if you are recently using the pill.  I'm not mathematician, but I'd say a roughly 300% increase of me getting a disease requires a warning on the label of that product and some strict warnings from the Department of Health.

And yet, the prominent agencies that should be speaking out about the risks, are not.

Bottom line is that it's not about women's health at all.  It’s about the big money machine that is the abortion and contraception industry.  An industry that targets minorities, but in the spotlight is hailed as a “reproductive rights” industry.    Politicians have the nerve to put our health at risk for the sake of political correctness, or worse yet, profit.

As women, we have been lied to by health agencies, cancer foundations (i.e. Susan G. Komen), government, churches – all telling us we were being deprived of our rights if we didn’t fight for contraception and abortion.  The truth is that contraception leads to higher risks of cancer, as well as opening the gates for promiscuous behavior that can lead to STD’s and/or pregnancy.  There is no form of contraception that is 100% effective.  Then, there is abortion.  We were told it’s our body, and our choice.  When in fact, it is a human life we have within us.  Not only do we increase our risk of physical illness (cancer) with abortion, but also our mental well being, and more importantly we are destroying an innocent life.

I’m so happy that I am Catholic.  The Church has never waivered in its condemnation of abortion as the taking of human lives, or the use contraceptives as taking away from women’s dignity.  While others have caved to the pressure of political correctness, our Holy Mother Church has always kept our human dignity in mind and has advocated for chastity as the only true answer.  The Church does not point a finger at us; rather, it guides us into believing in our human dignity and educates us on the true meaning of sex – intended between man and woman in union with God to procreate life.  As we continue to learn, anything other than that has consequences.

We must continue to look for the truth and never waiver in proclaiming it to others.
